Wow. I did not see that one coming, but Prokhorov is a genius.
Nets get: Deron Williams
Jazz get: Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and 2 first round draft picks. Oh, and cash considerations.
But wait! That’s not all. They made another move with the warriors.
Nets get: Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright
Warriors get: Troy Murphy
In the first deal, the Nets made a move that nearly no one saw coming, but a brilliant one. Williams is averaging 21.3 points and 9.7 assists per game.
With him entering New Jersey, they get a guy that they can build a team around, something they haven’t been able to do before.
It’s tough for them to give up Favors and a couple first round picks, Nets and Warriors 2011 first rounders, but now they can actually start somewhere. Williams is a leader and will make everyone around him better.
Kudos to the Nets, and big kudos to Prokhorov.
Then they decided to send Troy Murphy and his expiring contract to Golden State for bench warmer Dan Gadzuric and the underachieving Brandan Wright.
This move makes sense for them, because Gadzuric will add depth down low, and Brandan Wright is going to get a chance to actually showcase his skills, something the Warriors haven’t allowed him to do, mainly because of the former coach and injuries. Besides, Troy Murphy looks like he has run out of gas anyway.
