Carmelo Anthony Shipped to New York in Blockbuster

Knicks get: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter, Renaldo Balkman, Shelden Williams and Corey Brewer

Nuggets get: Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, Kosta Koufos, 1 first round pick and 2 second round picks, 3 million dollars

Timberwolves get: Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph

The Timberwolves are kind of irrelevant here so we’ll focus mainly on the Nuggets and the Knicks.

The Knicks got a superstar to team up with Amare Stoudemire in Anthony, which we all know was the gem of the deal. Then they get Billups, on the downside of his career but still very effective, and upgrade from Felton, and scrubs. Corey Brewer and Sheldon Williams are the only ones that I see may have any playing time whatsoever in the remaining bunch.

The Nuggets got a great end of the deal, although not as great as I had originally thought. Wilson Chandler is a 4th year player who is one of the budding stars in the league, it’s just too bad for the Nuggets that he probably isn’t going to be in their future plans. His contract is up after this season and he’s probably going to go somewhere that’s going to give him the big bucks, which means not Denver.

Danilo Gallinari is another budding star, but wasn’t exactly a huge fan favorite in New York. He averages about 15 ppg, but tends to fall asleep on the court sometimes. He’s only 22 and is a sniper from deep. He’s easily the best shooter currently on the Nuggets team, but reports are that they are looking to trade him, so we don’t really know if they see him in their plans either.

Raymond Felton is a little bit of a downgrade from Billups, but should step in and be capable of starting. They also got a clumsy, young center in Timofey Mozgov. The Knicks really liked this guy, but the Nuggets wanted him in there if they were to make a deal. He doesn’t have much value right now, but could pay off down the road.

The rest are scrubs. The only interesting thing about them is that Koufos is on his 4th team in 3 years in the league. He was once thought to have potential as he was the 23rd overall pick in the 2008 draft.

In the end, I think the Nuggets got the better end of the deal, even though when you trade superstars for a bunch of players, it tends not to go very well. These guys aren’t just players, they’re very solid players and Wilson Chandler could breakout here.

The Knicks were pretty idiotic. They easily could’ve waited until the offseason and brought ‘Melo in without giving up a soul. He was not going to sign anything with the Nets, but they just couldn’t wait. I think the helping hand here was that GM Donnie Walsh’s job is on the line, for some reason, and if he didn’t make this happen right now, he was going to lose his job. I also think that Owner James Dolan decided to take matters into his own hands.

Anyways, the Knicks gave up the family farm for a guy they could have gotten a couple months down the road without giving up anyone.
