Harrison against 18 Game Season

“I don’t think it is a good thing if you’re worried about player safety,” Harrison said of the 18-game season. “It’s nothing about player safety. It’s about them making money.”

“The biggest thing that hurt them was when Mr. Rooney came out and said he would rather it stay at 16 games and that he doesn’t need the money,” Harrison said. “He’s the main voice and most respected voice among the owners. He came out and said exactly what it is. It’s about them making money. It’s not about us. With them talking about player safety and all this fine stuff, that’s just a show to make them look better. It’s something to give the people to look at and have them think that they are trying to do something positive.”

“Roger Goodell,” Harrison says, “I don’t know if he even played peewee football.”

Good God, man. This is coming after his rant on hitting players too hard.

“I just want to tackle them softly on the ground and, if y’all can, we’ll lay a pillow down where I’m going to tackle them, so they don’t hit the ground too hard, Mr. Goodell.”

This guy is not afraid to speak his mind. As for his 18 game schedule, I think he is spot on about the NFL not caring about player safety. Isn’t the commissioner contradicting himself when saying he wants to do all he can for player safety, then he wants to extend the season? Hmmm….

That said, I’d love to have a 18 game season. Cut out a preseason game or two, and they’d be set. A couple more games means more fantasy football weeks, and more weeks to cheer on my team.

I’m not sure why Harrison isn’t in the same boat. Someone that “loves” the game as much as he supposedly does, should want to play some more games. It’s obvious all he cares about it the money.

You may look at it this way: 18 games means more games and less career span. Realistically, it shouldn’t take off any years. 16 games will get him more seasons in the league, thus more money.

Some of you might say that 18 games means more money per contract. Not true, 2 games isn’t enough to make a significant change in your salary.

I guess this is all just my opinion, and I could be dead wrong. If so, let me know. I’d love to hear what you think.
