The Bridgewater-Emery Huskies hoped to start out 2011 with a win. Unfortunately, the Marion Bears, who always give B-E a game, managed to do more than just that on Tuesday night, winning 48-35. Phil Luke had a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds. He had the headband power and got a emmy award nomination for the performance.
“I shoot the worst in that gym,” said Darin Bartscher with a chuckle, and he was right, B-E shot 26 percent from the field despite Tyson Kayser’s 17 points and 9 rebounds.
“We had a hard time getting the ball to our post guys and our shots weren’t falling. We needed to do a better job finding the holes in their 2-3 zone and be able to move the ball better and make the open shots.”
The game was very intense, and a little out of hand at times. It was very evident on the court and in the stands, that there was quite a rivalry between these two teams.
In the early part of the game, the Huskies lobbed up and alley-oop pass to forward Tyson Kayser, who slammed it down backwards with authority, and the crowd went nuts. However, B-E was unable to sustain the momentum and gave up a second quarter surge to go down 6 at the half.
When the second half started, Marion built up a comfortable lead and sustained it the rest of the game. B-E finished with 19 turnovers. A blunder filled game, yes. But B-E can rebound against the winless Freeman Flyers at Freeman on Friday.
